Acceptance Photo Book

Acceptance is our family's photographic journal during the early days of the pandemic in the Spring of 2020. Needing to transition our home into an office and a school, and with our two young boys who have autism, without in-person support, we were unsure of how to process and respond to what was happening. Bernie, a skilled photographer, did what photographers do: took out her camera to document. As our new reality unfolded, we recognized and saw in the images a parallel between the acceptance of shelter in place life and the journey of acceptance of our sons that had begun years before. What first seemed limited became a place for us to thrive when approached with love and compassion and acceptance.

*Our good friend, Lindsey Caneso asked us to let her lay them out in a photography book. This whole project stems from acceptance, love, and collaboration. Without her, these photos would have just lived in the digital world forever. She saw the personal, intimate quality of the images, and her vision helped bring this book to life.

We are building a Dickson Family Future trust fund for the boys through CalABLE so they can get what they need as adults. We hope to create a support system for them to become independent and live full, colorful, vibrant lives.
